All About Nihonium

Atomic Symbol

The atomic symbol for Nihonium is Nh.

Atomic Number

Nihonium has 113 protons and electrons, this means Nihonium's atomic number is 113.

Atomic Mass

Nihonium's atomic mass is 286 u

 Atomic Stucture

The nucleus (the large, black, circle in the diagram) contains 113 protons. The nucleus also contains 173                                           neutrons (in the most abundant isotope.)
The electron cloud (the rings containing the electrons that go around the nucleus) contains 113 electrons. Valence electrons are the electrons located in the outer most shell of an atom. Nihonium has 3 valence electrons, as shown in the  picture.

Family

Nihonium belongs family 13. The members of family 13 are Boron, Aluminum, Gallium, Indium, Thallium, and the chemically uncharacterized... Nihonium! One characteristic of  family 13 is that Aluminum, Gallium, Indium, Thallium and Nihonium are all metals; while Boron is a metalloid. Another characteristic of  family 13 is they all have 3 valence electrons. Family 13 has many diverse characteristics. For example, Nihonium has never been found in nature, while Aluminum is the 3rd most abundant element in the earth's crust!
